As part of The Ohio State University’s Safe Streets for Buckeyes (SS4B) engagement efforts, university staff and community partners are experiencing campus streets from a different perspective on two wheels.
Ohio State has hosted two bike audits in August, taking groups with a range of riding experience on a 7-mile loop of campus. The first audit included members of the campus Active Transportation Working Group as well as representatives from the City of Columbus and the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC). The second audit brought together staff from Facilities Operations and Development (FOD), Planning, Architecture and Real Estate (PARE), Transportation and Traffic Management (TTM), Facilities Information Technology Services (FITS) and the Wexner Medical Center. Some participants regularly bike on campus and throughout the city, while others offered insights based on their day-to-day experience moving through camps. Together, these perspectives provide valuable feedback on campus and adjacent streets as well as opportunities to enhance safety, accessibility and connectivity of campus roadways.
Data from the bike audits will help inform recommendations as Ohio State develops its Safe Streets for Buckeyes safety plan. While no additional bike audits are currently planned, a similar walk audit is scheduled for later this fall.

The SS4B team also will be available at upcoming campus events, including Student Life’s BLOC Party and the University District’s Pearl Alley Jam, as well as at pop-up events around campus in September.
